In context
PelisseroIt's looking good. He was listed as full on Monday and Tuesday.
PelisseroHe's in the middle of practice yesterday and goes like, ah, I don't, my back doesn't feel quite right. And at that point, the coaches as much as anything were like, we can't keep doing this. We can't keep planning for the guy. He doesn't want to be here. The Cowboys had a strong offer.
PelisseroSo really ramped up last night. They had to get the final sign -offs there.
PelisseroYou know, Joey Porter Jr. is 24 years old. If he were to hit free agency at some point, he's going to make a lot of money. He's going to be a 30 -plus million -dollar corner, even though the Steelers and basically everybody else didn't really value him at that level. That's why it's hard.
PelisseroThat's why I thought it was hard to get a deal done. It was hard to get a trade done before the season because no one was going to be willing to do that on a contract. But, Bill, you and I both know in free agency, people spend stupid money all the time. This could end up being like George Pickens where they tag him and he plays another year in Dallas.
PelisseroAnd then we'll find out what they do. Maybe they do sign him to extension. Maybe they let him walk and they take a comp pick. There's a lot of ways it can go. But make no mistake, this is a move for the Cowboys who have watched that defense not be able to get the stand.
PelisseroThey saw the seven seconds in Rio, which sounds like a bad rom -com. Or porn. And they're just like, we need a cover corner. They needed it all along, and they went and they got the best one available.
