How Lane Johnson’s Retirement Will Affect the Eagles and More Questions for Week 5

PelisseroHe was playing at that high of a level. The biggest question to me, and we talked about this through the course of camp, was going to be, you're bringing in Sean Mannion, and that McVay, Shanahan, O 'Connell, LeFleur, all those guys that Sean Mannion played for or coached with. It's that style of offense.

PelisseroAnd it doesn't look like a fit on paper for Jalen Hurts. So one thing, if I'm sitting here and going, what is the silver lining in all of this? It's that Jalen Hurts, by the way, who didn't have Saquon last week and probably won't, or he gets knocked out of the game, will probably miss a couple of weeks.

PelisseroDevontae Smith didn't play last week, probably going to be out at least another week here. Now the offensive line is a lot of moving parts. I haven't felt like Jalen Hurts looks bad. I felt like on the whole, especially in the first two games, he makes a ton of plays. even these last two weeks, I didn't sit there going, Jalen Hurts is the reason they're losing games.

PelisseroThat thing should keep getting better. Is he ever going to be fully comfortable playing that style, under center, play action, turn your back to the line of scrimmage? I don't know. And maybe they get to the end of the season and say, it just wasn't a fit.

PelisseroLet's see if we might have the opportunity to get someone in who's a better fit for what we want to do. But for Jalen Hurts, again, this is a really, really good football player who's playing a little bit fish out of water at this point schematically.

Pelisseroand I feel like there's still growth opportunities there based on what I've seen through the first four weeks.
