In context
GilBut yeah, like it didn't work out, but I don't feel as bad because I feel like two weeks ago we were arguing, this is how you should let this play out. And now we've seen it fail both ways.
PelisseroThe timeout is a big deal. And I just was on the phone right before we recorded with the GM. we were going through this entire situation because every team evaluates all these late game situations because they're always going, okay, we just saw what happened. Howie Roseman's like, my guy screwed this up.
PelisseroI'm just kidding. Go ahead. It's not Howie. But they all look at it and your game management staff looks at it and they evaluate the situation because they go, okay, what are we going to do next time? When Todd Bowles makes the decision he did on fourth down the air. Every team is looking at that and going, the analytics didn't track on that one.
PelisseroAnd so I bet you we don't see another coach make a move like that. The timeout is critical here because of exactly what Sheil said, which is it's the difference between being able to complete a pass anywhere on the field
Pelisseroand having to throw it to the sidelines. You could just play outside leverage, protect the sideline, try to tackle the guy in bounds, potentially mitigate the possibility of being able to get out and then still kick in the field goal.
PelisseroBut you're still talking about two utterly brutal plays.
PelisseroOkay.
